# RFMD-100 / RFMD-200

PIR motion detectors RFMD-100 (wall or corner) and RFMD-200 (ceiling) - battery, DIP switches, pairing, LED, clearing, specs.

*Part 3 — Unit reference · Detectors.*

Battery-powered motion detectors (PIR). When someone moves in the room the detector sends a command — for example to switch a light on, or to trigger an alarm. The detector does not switch anything itself: a receiver (for example an RFSAI switch unit) does. The detector is paired with the receiver **exactly like a wall button**, with one difference: instead of pressing a button you **insert the batteries**.

## Where are the battery and the DIP switches

The detector has **no pairing button**. It sends its pairing signal when you **insert the batteries**.

* **RFMD-100:** push a screwdriver into the opening at the top of the detector and open the cover. To get to the battery holder, press the two beaks on the setting component down and take the component out of the base.
* **RFMD-200:** turn the detector to the left and separate it from the base.

The DIP switches and the dials are on the electronics, next to the battery holders.

## DIP switches and dials — set them BEFORE pairing

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Set the DIP switches before you pair.** The detector reads them when the batteries go in. If you change a DIP switch later, remove the batteries, **wait 30 seconds**, and insert them again to save the change (RFMD-200 manual: “storing is done by removing and reinserting the batteries 30 seconds apart”).
{% endhint %}

**LUX dial** — the light level for the light-sensor function (DIP1). **SENS dial** — PIR sensitivity (the setting is there to eliminate unwanted triggering).

### What “connected to a system” (DIP3) means

With DIP3 **OFF** the detector is paired with a compatible receiver and does not send periodic status. With DIP3 **ON** the detector is connected to a system component (eLAN, RF Touch, iNELS central unit) and sends a message when its state changes and again every 120 minutes. To add the detector to a gateway or system unit use the **address printed on the underside of the detector** (or in the upper left part of the opened detector). On the RFMD-200 the detector can also be added to the mobile app by typing in this 6-character address code. The steps in the gateway itself are described on the [eLAN-204](/inels-home/inels-wireless/devices/system-units/elan-204.md) pages.

## Pairing with a receiver

Before you start: the receiver is powered and its PROG times are known — [Appendix A](/inels-home/inels-wireless/appendix-a-prog-button-times.md). The detector sends a command when it is triggered, so it is paired the same way as a wall button — see the [Pairing reference](/inels-home/inels-wireless/pairing-and-configuration.md) (section D for detectors).

{% hint style="danger" %}
**The 30-second rule.** When you take the batteries out, **wait at least 30 seconds before putting them back**. If you are quicker, the detector may not notice the batteries and pairing fails.
{% endhint %}

There are two ways to pair. Choose the one you want **before** you start.

|                                           | What the receiver does                                                                                                           |
| ----------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **A. Immediate response** | The receiver switches on when the detector is triggered and its contact opens again after **1 s** (*fixed-time delayed return*). |
| **B. Delayed return with a time you set** | The receiver switches on when the detector is triggered and switches off again after **the time you set** (2 s to 60 min). |

### A. Immediate response

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Set the DIP switches

Set DIP1, DIP2 and DIP3 as you want them (see above). Check the batteries are **out**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Put the receiver into programming mode

Hold **PROG** on the receiver for its *enter programming* time ([Appendix A](/inels-home/inels-wireless/appendix-a-prog-button-times.md)). The LED flashes once per second.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Insert the batteries

Push the batteries into the holder — watch the polarity. The **red LED on the detector blinks**, and the **LED on the receiver blinks faster**. The detector is now assigned to the receiver.

![Insert the batteries](https://2503278529-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FkoLW6hWCvDgagoswDVfD%2Fuploads%2FUGkKH1E4DHQuz7j3zJn5%2Frfmd-100-battery-insert.png?alt=media)
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Finish

Short press **PROG** on the receiver (under 1 s). Its LED goes off.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### B. Delayed return with time setting

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Set the DIP switches and open programming

Set the DIP switches, batteries **out**. Put the receiver into programming mode (hold PROG for its *enter programming* time — [Appendix A](/inels-home/inels-wireless/appendix-a-prog-button-times.md)).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Insert the batteries

The red LED on the detector blinks; the LED on the receiver blinks faster.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Take one battery out and put it back after 30 s

The red LED on the detector blinks again and the receiver LED blinks faster.

![Take the battery out and put it back after 30 s](https://2503278529-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FkoLW6hWCvDgagoswDVfD%2Fuploads%2FJfrpjPgpWDVF4DmF4cN2%2Frfmd-100-battery-twice.png?alt=media)
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Take the battery out again, wait 30 s, then start the timer

After 30 s hold **PROG on the receiver for more than 5 s**. The receiver is now in timing mode — its LED flashes **twice per second**. The time starts counting when you **release** PROG.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Wait for the time you want (2 s to 60 min)

![Wait](https://2503278529-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FkoLW6hWCvDgagoswDVfD%2Fuploads%2FqKphDjGCDsV2R207DrBN%2Ftiming-wait.png?alt=media)
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Insert the battery to store the time

The red LED on the detector blinks and the LED on the receiver blinks — the time is saved.

![Insert the battery to store the time](https://2503278529-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FkoLW6hWCvDgagoswDVfD%2Fuploads%2FOdZhVhrIrg7h32SMeJqT%2Frfmd-100-battery-save.png?alt=media)
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Finish

Short press **PROG** on the receiver (under 1 s). Its LED goes off.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

{% hint style="info" %}
Hold PROG on the receiver for the time of **your receiver** from [Appendix A](/inels-home/inels-wireless/appendix-a-prog-button-times.md) — for example 2 s on a single-channel RFSAI, 3–5 s on an RFSAI-62B-SL. Leave **1 s between** commands.
{% endhint %}

### Pairing through a repeater (RFRP-20 / RFRP-20N)

If the signal is weak, the detector can be taught to a repeater. Plug the repeater into a socket while holding its PROG button — the green LED flashes; release when the red LED lights. Press PROG briefly once; the red LED flashes and after 5 s the repeater is in the additional learning mode (the LED stops flashing). Insert the detector batteries — a green flash on the repeater means the detector is stored. End with one short press of PROG on the repeater: the red LED flashes for 1 s, then the green LED stays on.

## Radio range

For the usual radio range and the influence of walls see [How programming works § Range](/inels-home/inels-wireless/how-programming-works.md). The detector has no repeater function.

Do not install detectors in metal switchboards or in plastic switchboards with a metal door. Keep at least 1 cm to the next unit.

## Using the detector

* **15 s after inserting the batteries** the PIR sensor needs time to settle. It does not detect during this time.
* **For 5 minutes after inserting the batteries** every detection is shown by the **red LED** and the pause after a detection is only **2 seconds** (whatever DIP2 says). Walk in front of the detector to check the position. After the 5 minutes the pause follows DIP2 (1 or 5 minutes) and the LED stays dark. *On the RFMD-100 the same 5 minutes start when you close the cover after it was open.*
* Mount it indoors, at a height up to 2.5 m, and leave space above it for changing the batteries.

## Removing the pairing

The pairing is stored **in the receiver**, not in the detector. To remove it, use the receiver's PROG button — how long to hold it is in [Appendix A](/inels-home/inels-wireless/appendix-a-prog-button-times.md) (*clear one button*; *clear whole memory* = factory reset of the receiver). The steps are in [Pairing reference § C](/inels-home/inels-wireless/pairing-and-configuration.md): after the receiver shows the clear mode (LED 4× per second), the detector has to send its signal, in the same way as when pairing.

## Troubleshooting

| Symptom                                                          | Fix                                                                                                                                                               |
| ---------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Receiver LED does not blink faster when you insert the batteries | You were quicker than 30 s after taking them out. Remove the batteries, wait 30 s, insert again. Check the polarity and that the receiver is in programming mode. |
| Receiver LED flashes 4× per second | PROG was held too long (clear mode). Do not press anything on the detector; wait, then hold PROG for the shorter *enter programming* time. |
| The light switches off too early / stays on too long | Check DIP2 (1 or 5 minutes) — or pair again with the delayed return B and a time you choose. |
| Detector does not react for the first seconds | Normal — the PIR sensor needs 15 s to settle after the batteries go in. |
| Detector reacts again and again right after installation | Normal — test phase for 5 minutes (pause 2 s). On the RFMD-200 also check that DIP1 is OFF. |
| Changed DIP, nothing happened | Remove the batteries, wait 30 s, insert them to save the new setting. |
| Reacts to things that are not people | Lower the **SENS** dial — it is there to eliminate unwanted triggering. |
| Works close by, not in place | Range — see [How programming works § Range](/inels-home/inels-wireless/how-programming-works.md). |
