# RFRP-20N repeater

RFRP-20N — plug-in radio repeater that extends the range between a transmitter and a unit. What it does, where to put it, how to teach it the addresses.

*Part 3 — Unit reference · System units.*

The **RFRP-20N** is a radio **repeater**. It receives the signal of a transmitter or a system unit and sends it on, so the signal reaches a unit that is too far away or behind too many walls. You simply **plug it into a wall socket** — it is a through-socket, so the socket stays usable.

## Where to put it

* **Between** the transmitter (or system unit) and the unit it serves, so that it is **within range of both** — up to 200 m in open space on each side.
* Plug it into a socket **inside the building**. RF Control is meant for interiors only, not for outdoor or damp rooms.
* **Not in a metal switchboard**, and not behind metal — radio signal does not pass.
* Keep at least **1 cm** between units, and leave at least **1 s** between commands.
* **Only one repeater** can be in the path between a transmitter and a unit. Repeaters cannot be chained to gain range.
* You can use several RFRP-20N in a system, but **the same address may be taught to only one repeater**. If two repeaters have the same address they interfere and can jam the whole radio system.

How much of the signal passes through the building (manual):

| Material                            | Signal passes |
| ----------------------------------- | ------------- |
| Brick walls                         | 60–90 %       |
| Wooden structures with plasterboard | 80–95 %       |
| Reinforced concrete                 | 20–60 %       |
| Metal partitions                    | 0–10 %        |
| Common glass                        | 80–90 %       |

## Pairing — teaching the repeater

The repeater has to learn the address of every unit it should serve. There are three working modes, which you step through with short presses of the PROG button:

| Short presses | Mode                    | LED during the 5 s wait | What it does                                             |
| ------------- | ----------------------- | ----------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------- |
| 1 | **Additional learning** | Red flashes | Keeps the addresses already stored and lets you add more |
| 2 | **Learning** | Red lights | **Erases the whole memory**, then you can start teaching |
| 3 | **Operating mode** | Green flashes | Normal work. Green LED lights |

The first time, use **Learning** mode.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Enter the mode menu

Unplug the repeater. **Hold the PROG button** and plug it into the socket. The green LED flashes. When the **red LED lights**, release the button.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Choose the mode

Press PROG briefly (under 1 s) once or twice as in the table. After **5 s** the repeater enters the mode: in **Learning** mode the red LED goes out; in **Additional learning** mode it stops flashing. If you do not press anything within 5 s, it goes back to operating mode and the green LED lights.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Teach it a transmitter (no address)

Transmitters such as wall controllers and key fobs have no address. **Press a button on the transmitter.** The green LED of the repeater blinks — the address is stored.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Teach it a unit with an address

On the **system unit** (RF Touch, RF Pilot, RFTC-10/G, RFTC-50/G) enter the address of the unit **changed by the offset** (table below). Then make the system unit send a command to that unit. The repeater stores the address.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Finish

Short press PROG at any time. The addresses are saved, the red LED flashes for 1 s, then the green LED stays lit. The repeater is back in operating mode.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### The offset for addresses

Change the **first character** of the address as in the table. The other characters stay the same.

| Real address starts with | 0 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 |
| ------------------------ | - | - | - | - | - | - | - | - |
| Enter on the system unit | 8 | 9 | A | B | C | D | E | F |

Example: unit address **157600** → enter **957600**.

### Temperature sensors RFTI-10B and RFTC-10/G

On the RF Touch enter the offset address of the RFTI-10B or RFTC-10/G. Put the repeater in learning mode as above. Then insert the battery (CR2477 in the RFTI-10B) or batteries (RFTC-10/G) into the sensor. This starts communication with the RF Touch and the repeater stores the address.

{% hint style="warning" %}
While you teach the repeater, no other transmitter in range may send. The repeater could learn a transmitter from a neighbouring building or another RF system.
{% endhint %}

## Clearing the memory

There is **no way to delete a single address**. Entering **Learning** mode (2 short presses, then wait 5 s) **erases the whole memory**. Teach all units again afterwards.

## Full memory

When the memory is full, the red LED flashes for 1 s, the green LED lights, learning ends and the repeater switches to operating mode by itself.

## Use with gateways

* The **eLAN-103** manual says to use the RFRP-20 repeater when the signal between the eLAN and a unit is weak. The RFRP-20N datasheet shows RF Touch, RF Pilot, eLAN-RF-103, RF Key and RFWB controllers reaching units up to 200 m through the repeater.
* The RFATV-2 thermovalve manual also names the RFRP-20N for more range, or other system units that have a repeater function.

## LED reference

| LED                          | Meaning                                       |
| ---------------------------- | --------------------------------------------- |
| Green, lit | Supply voltage present; operating mode |
| Red                          | Active — receiving and sending a radio signal |
| Green blinks during learning | A new address was stored |
| Red flashes, then green lit | Learning ended, addresses saved |

## Troubleshooting

| Symptom                                      | What to do                                                                                                       |
| -------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| No LED | There is no supply voltage — check the socket (the green LED shows the supply) |
| Nothing is repeated after the first teaching | The first programming must be done in **Learning** mode (2 presses) |
| A button works, but the old ones stopped | You used Learning mode, which erased the memory. Teach all again, or use Additional learning next time |
| Radio system is jammed or acts strangely | The same address is in more than one repeater, or repeaters are chained. Teach each address to one repeater only |
| Strange units are repeated | A neighbour's transmitter was in range during teaching. Clear the memory and teach again |
