# Thermovalves

Wireless thermostatic radiator valves — RFATV-2 (iNELS Wireless radio) and RFATV-8 (LoRaWAN) — and which thermostats and gateways control them.

*Part 3 — Unit reference · Heating and temperature control.*

A thermovalve (thermostatic head) screws onto a radiator valve. It measures the room temperature and opens or closes the valve with a built-in motor. There are two, and they use **different radios**, so they work with different controllers.

## What the RFATV-2 does

From the instruction manual:

* **Frost protection.** If its sensor measures below 5 °C, the valve opens. You cannot block this with a manual or automatic mode.
* **Open-window detection.** A sudden drop in temperature is taken as an open window and the valve closes. You switch the function on in the app or system unit and set how long until it returns to normal.
* **Lost communication.** If it loses contact with the system unit, the valve goes to a 21 °C heating mode.
* **Valve sticking.** A function against the valve getting stiff.
* **Hysteresis and offset** can be set in the app or on the system unit.
* It takes commands from the system unit every 6 minutes.

### Adding the RFATV-2 to a gateway

Insert the batteries (the LED flashes green — waiting for calibration), mount the head on the valve, and press the control button: calibration takes about 4 seconds. Then pair it to the system unit by **scanning the QR code in the app** or by **typing its RF address** in the system unit menu.
