# Appendix E : Glossary

Plain-language meanings of the words used in this manual: PROG, pairing, transmitter, receiver, gateway, RFIO2, repeater, memory function and more.

*Appendices. Words in alphabetical order.*

| Word | What it means |
| ----------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Actuator** | Another word for a **receiver**: the unit that switches, dims or moves the load. Some manuals use "unit", "component" or "device" for the same thing |
| **Address** | A number printed on the front of a receiver (one per output). It is used to add the unit to a gateway or other system unit. It is not used for pairing a button by hand |
| **AN-I, AN-E, AN-E3** | Antennas. **AN-I** is the internal antenna packed with several units. **AN-E** and **AN-E3** are external antennas for units in a metal switchboard. See [Tutorial 8](/inels-home/inels-wireless/tutorial-8-range-and-repeaters.md) |
| **Button (channel)** | One button of a controller. One paired button takes one "channel" in the receiver's memory. A receiver has a limit, for example 25 for an RFSAI-61B-SL |
| **BOX design** | A unit small enough to fit in an installation box, a ceiling or a light cover |
| **Clear one button** | Remove one controller button from a receiver's memory. Hold PROG for the unit's *clear one* time, then press that button. See [Appendix A](/inels-home/inels-wireless/appendix-a-prog-button-times.md) and [Tutorial 7](/inels-home/inels-wireless/tutorial-7-fixing-mistakes.md) |
| **Clear whole memory** | Remove all buttons from a receiver. This is the **factory reset**. Hold PROG for the unit's *clear whole memory* time. It does not change the memory function |
| **Compatibility mode** | A way of pairing very old controllers and units. The controller is switched into it by re-inserting its battery and pressing buttons 1 + 2. The LED flashes fast. See [Appendix C](/inels-home/inels-wireless/appendix-c-which-transmitter-works-with-which-receiver.md) |
| **Controller** | A transmitter that you press by hand: a wall controller (RFWB, RFGB), a key fob (RF KEY), a glass controller. Controllers do not know what they are paired with: the receiver remembers |
| **cos φ (power factor)** | A number that says how much of the current does useful work. Dimmable LED lamps are between 0.4 and 0.95. A dimmer's real capacity is lower for such lamps. See [Appendix D](/inels-home/inels-wireless/appendix-d-load-capacity.md) |
| **Delayed off (5×)** | A switch-unit function. A press switches the output on. It switches off by itself after a time you set (2 s to 60 min). See [Tutorial 2](/inels-home/inels-wireless/tutorial-2-staircase-light.md) |
| **Delayed on (6×)** | A switch-unit function. A press switches the output off. It switches on by itself after a time you set (2 s to 60 min) |
| **Detector** | A battery-powered transmitter that sends a command when something happens: motion (RFMD), an opening window or door (RFWD), water on the floor (RFSF). It is paired when its batteries are inserted. See [Tutorial 5](/inels-home/inels-wireless/tutorial-5-detectors-motion-light-door-or-window-flood.md) |
| **DIP switch** | A tiny row of switches inside a detector. They set how it behaves (for example, whether it is paired with a unit or with a gateway). Set them **before** inserting the batteries |
| **eLAN** | The family of ELKO EP gateways (eLAN-RF-103, eLAN-RF-204). See *Gateway* |
| **Factory reset** | Another name for *clear whole memory*. There is no extra, longer reset |
| **Function** | What a paired button does. You choose it by pressing the button N times while the unit is in programming mode: 1× pushbutton, 2× switch on, 3× switch off, 4× impulse relay, and so on. See [Appendix B](/inels-home/inels-wireless/appendix-b-functions-by-number-of-presses.md) |
| **Gateway** | A device that connects your wireless system to the network: eLAN-RF-103, eLAN-RF-204 or RFTC-3. It gives you the app, the cloud, timers, scenes and automation. You do not need one for direct pairing. See [Tutorial 9](/inels-home/inels-wireless/tutorial-9-adding-a-gateway.md) |
| **Impulse relay (4×)** | A function where each press switches the output to the opposite state: on becomes off, off becomes on. This is the usual "toggle" button |
| **LED** | The small light on a unit or controller. Its pattern tells you which mode you are in. See [Tutorial 7](/inels-home/inels-wireless/tutorial-7-fixing-mistakes.md) |
| **Light scene (dimmers)** | A dimmer function (1× to 4×). You set a brightness with a long press. A short press then switches the light on and off at that brightness. The dimmer keeps it after a power cut. See [Tutorial 3](/inels-home/inels-wireless/tutorial-3-dimming-and-light-scenes.md) |
| **Memory function** | A setting in a switch unit that decides what the output does after a power cut: return to the last state, or stay off. You set it at the end of programming. The LED shows it: 3 blinks = on, one long light = off |
| **Pairing** | Teaching a receiver to obey one transmitter button. The receiver stores it. You do it with the receiver's PROG button and the transmitter. Also called "programming", "teaching" or "learning" |
| **Pairing button** | A small button on newer controllers (marked by a pairing symbol on the back). Hold it 1 s to put the controller into pairing mode |
| **Potential-free output** | A relay output that is electrically separate from the supply. It only opens and closes, like a switch. RFSAI-61BPF-SL has one |
| **PROG** | The one programming button on every receiver. How long you hold it decides what happens: short press = manual switch or finish; longer = programming, clear one, clear all. The times differ by unit. See [Appendix A](/inels-home/inels-wireless/appendix-a-prog-button-times.md) |
| **Programming mode** | The state in which a receiver waits for a controller button. The LED flashes once per second |
| **Pushbutton (1×)** | A switch-unit function. The output is on while the button is held and off when released |
| **Receiver** | A unit that does the work: switch unit, dimmer, shutter unit. It remembers its pairings |
| **Repeater** | A device or unit that receives a radio message and sends it on, to reach farther. Units marked RFIO2 can be set as repeaters with the RFAF/USB service key. RFRP-20N is a plug-in repeater. See [Tutorial 8](/inels-home/inels-wireless/tutorial-8-range-and-repeaters.md) |
| **RFAF/USB service key** | A USB key with PC software for installers. Among other things, it switches on the repeater function in RFIO2 units and updates their firmware |
| **RFIO** | The original ELKO EP radio protocol. 866–922 MHz depending on country |
| **RFIO2** | The newer protocol. It works with older RFIO products and adds repeater function, firmware updates through the service key, and the RFMD-100 and RFWD-100 detectors. Units carry an "RFIO2" mark |
| **RFRP-20N** | A repeater that plugs into a mains socket. It extends the range between a controller and a unit by up to 200 m, for up to 20 components. The socket stays usable |
| **Sunrise / sunset (5× / 6× on dimmers)** | A dimmer function that brightens (sunrise) or dims (sunset) the light slowly over a time you set (2 s to 30 min) |
| **SETUP mode** | A mode of the RFDEL-71B-SL dimmer, entered with four quick presses of PROG.
