# Finding your way around

Learn the layout once and every other screen explains itself.

Every Administration and Reception screen is built the same way. Learn it here and the other twenty pages need no explanation.

## The four regions of a page

```
┌───────────┬──────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│           │  ② Top bar:  page name · your name · 🔔      │
│ ① Sidebar ├──────────────────────────────────────────────┤
│           │  ③ Page heading                              │
│           │                                              │
│           │  ④ Content: cards, tables, tabs, buttons     │
└───────────┴──────────────────────────────────────────────┘
```

### ① The sidebar

Every screen your role can open. The current page is highlighted. The **☰** icon beside the iNELS logo collapses it to icons only, which helps on a laptop.

Pages you cannot see are pages your role cannot open. Nothing is broken — see [Who does what](/inels-harmony/getting-started/who-does-what.md).

### ② The top bar

Shows where you are, who is signed in, your role badge, a **Log out** link, and the notification bell.

The **bell** carries a red count when guests have pressed Do Not Disturb, Make Up Room or Butler in their rooms. Click it for the latest few.

### ③ The page heading

A one-line title. Nothing to click — it tells you where you are when you come back to a tab you left open yesterday.

### ④ The content area

Three patterns cover nearly every screen:

| Pattern | Where you meet it | How it behaves |
| --------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Table with row actions** | Gateways, Rooms, Devices, Users, Zones, Cards, Guests | One row per item. Search box above, page size below. Pencil = edit, bin = delete. |
| **Tabs inside a card** | Settings, Devices, Floors/Rooms | Each tab is its own form with its own Save button. |
| **Grid of live room cards** | Overview, Reception → Rooms | Updates by itself as the building changes. |

## Four habits that save time

{% hint style="success" %}
**Search, don't page.** Every table filters across all columns as you type. Typing `203` finds room 203 far faster than clicking through pages.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Check which tab you are on before you click Save.** Each tab in Settings saves only itself. This is the single most common cause of "my change did not stick".
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="danger" %}
**Read the name in a delete confirmation.** It tells you which row you actually clicked. Restore and factory reset go further and make you type `REPLACE_ALL_DATA` or `FACTORY_RESET` by hand — that is deliberate.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
**The Help item at the bottom of the sidebar** opens this manual from inside the app, with no internet connection required.
{% endhint %}

## Housekeeping is deliberately different

The Housekeeping app has no sidebar and no tables. It is one list of large task cards, sized for a thumb, because it is used walking down a corridor with an armful of linen.
