# What is iNELS Bus

iNELS Bus is a communication protocol and system developed by ELKO EP, a leading manufacturer of smart home and building automation solutions. iNELS Bus is designed to enable seamless communication between various devices and subsystems within a building, such as lighting, heating, ventilation, security, and more.

The iNELS Bus system utilizes a 2 wired bus network infrastructure to connect and control different components and devices throughout the building. It employs a decentralized architecture, where each subsystem on the bus has its own intelligence and can communicate with others directly.

The iNELS Bus protocol uses a combination of wired connections, such as RS-485, Dali, Modbus, and wireless technologies like RF (radio frequency) to establish communication links. iNELS bus also uses network protocols such as IP and MQTT to communicate with 3rd party world. This allows for flexibility in the system design, supporting both new installations and retrofitting into existing buildings.
